The RPVST protocol
RPVST – Rapid Per–Vlan Spanning Tree
– CISCO Owner Protocol
– Based on the RSTP protocol
– A Vlan – A Spanning Tree Instance
Rapid-PVST Protocol – RSTP Protocol – PVST Protocol
The RPVST protocol works exactly like the PVST protocol except that it is based on the RSTP protocol, so it takes 6 seconds instead of 50 seconds to update its Spanning Tree topology.
Which explains the name Rapid-PVST

– mst – STD Protocol
– pvst – PVST Protocol
– rapid-pvst – Rapid-pvst Protocol
